The Department of Basic Medicine was established in 1987 and formerly known as Department of Basic Medicine of Hangzhou Medical College. The department undertakes the teaching of basic medicine for all majors in the school as well as the scientific research of basic medicine. The department has set up the teaching and research offices for Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Immunology and Pathogenic Biology, Physiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Pathophysiology and Pathology, as well as the provincial experimental teaching demonstration center for basic medicine.

After 30 years’ construction, the Department of Basic Medicine has built school-level key disciplines, including Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology and Physiology. It has master degree program for the Human Anatomy and the Histology and Embryology; and the provincial experimental teaching demonstration center, municipal key laboratory for molecular immunology. The school currently has the provincial excellent courses, including Human Anatomy, Physiology and Immunology and municipal level excellent course, i.e. Pathogenic Biology.

The Department of Basic Medicine has cultivated and built a faculty team with outstanding comprehensive quality, which has undertook many national, provincial and municipal scientific research projects and published many articles in the domestic and international authoritative journals. Many of the faculty members selected by the program of New Century Talents of Ministry of Education, Provincial “151” Talents and Municipal “131” Talents program and have successively won such honors as “Prize-winner in Provincial and Municipal Modern Education Skill Contest”, “Advanced Teacher” and “Outstanding Communist Party Member”.
