Clinical Medicine, which was stablished in 1978, has now been built into a provincial key major through 40 years’ construction and development. The department is qualified for recruiting five-year system undergraduates (including International students), postgraduates with professional degree (including International students) and postgraduates with master degrees of first-level disciplines. As of the end of 2016, the department has totally enrolled approximate 10,000 junior college students, undergraduates and postgraduates, of which, more than 7000 have graduated. The students come from 23 provinces and municipalities in China.
The department passed the undergraduates teaching level assessment by the Ministry of Education in 2007, passed undergraduate programs accreditation by Ministry of Education in 2013. Discipline ranking of the department ranked among world’s top 1% in term of ESI in 2017. At present, the department takes an important position in Hangzhou Normal University in enrollment scale, cultivation quality and scientific research and social services. Now, the department has 1 post-doctoral working station, 3 provincial level key disciplines, 6 municipal level key disciplines, 3 provincial level key laboratories, 3 municipal level key laboratories, 6 school-level teaching experiment platforms, 5 provincial excellent courses and 8 municipal level excellent courses. The department sets up 14 teaching and research offices, including internal medicine office, and one clinical skill center, and has 1 directly affiliated 3A level hospital, 9 non-directly affiliated hospitals and 30 teaching hospitals. It offers 24 professional core courses, including Internal Medicine and undertakes the task for cultivating 5-year system undergraduates, postgraduates and overseas students. At present, the department has 1150 in-school undergraduates, 9 doctoral candidates, 170 postgraduate students and 164 overseas students. In regard to full-time teachers, of which, 66.5% hold senior professional title, 47.2% hold doctor’s degree, 16.5% have the experience of studying or working abroad. At present, the department undertakes 40 national level scientific research projects, 43 ministerial and provincial-level projects, and has obtained 13 national patents for invention, 36 provincial and municipal level Sci-tech awards and published 148 SCI theses and 552 theses in national first grade journals. 2014-2016 grade undergraduates have initiated 175 scientific research projects, of which, 64 are provincial level projects, 13 are national college students’ innovation and entrepreneurial projects and 64 are provincial new talent programs. The students have won 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes in Zhejiang Province “Challenge Cup” College Students Extracurricular Academic and Sci-tech Works Competition and published more than 90 theses. In the past 4 years, the average passing rate of undergraduates taking National Medical Licensing Examination was 84.92%, which was 18.57% higher than the average passing of the country, ranking the 15th (the ranking in four years in average) among more than 150 medical schools in China; the students have participated in Zhejiang Province College Students Medical Competitions for 7 consecutive session and come out top, and won 2 second prizes in East China Division of Nationwide Medical Colleges Clinical Skill Competition and 1 third prize in the finals. The average employment rate of the graduates is 98.34% and the average signing rate is 94.34%, with job-speciality fitting rate of over 97%. The speciality is based on Hangzhou to serve Zhejiang and is oriented to the whole country and is dedicated to professional cultivation of high quality practical medicine talented person with solid basic theory, excellent comprehensive quality, strong clinical practical ability and certain capacity for scientific research.
