Department of Preventive Medicine started to enroll the first batch students of Preventive Medicine major (five-year system) with the approval of State Education Commission in 2008, and was approved the qualification of master degree education in Public Health and Preventive Medicine in 2016. The faculty team includes 1 National Outstanding Youth Teacher, a candidate of National “Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Program”, 1 of the “New Century Talents” of Ministry of Education; one member of the Guiding Committee in Public Health and Preventive Medicine of Ministry of Education. 86.5% of the faculty has the PhD degree, and 43.2% of them have overseas experience. The department owns Zhejiang Province “Public Health Monitoring and Emergency Response Key Technology Research and Sci-tech Innovation Team” and “Labor Hygiene and Environmental Hygiene”, which is the top priority discipline in Hangzhou. Through integrated construction of “innovation team- key discipline-characteristic specialty-predominant direction”, the department has realized the conversion from discipline characteristics to speciality characteristics. Preventive Medicine Speciality has become an emerging characteristic speciality (oriented to Public Health Monitoring and Emergency Response) of Zhejiang Province in “12th five-year plan period”. The department has successively established cooperative relationship with Zhejiang Province Disease Prevention and Control Center, Hangzhou Disease Prevention and Control Center and took initiative to provide service for the construction of Hangzhou as “City of Life Quality” and “Healthy City” and for public health in Zhejiang Province. With high employment ratio and distinctive characteristics in disciplinary development, the Department of Preventive Medicine has become an important teaching, scientific research and talent training base for public health and preventive medicine in Zhejiang Province.
