Established in 2001, the Pharmacy Specialty started to recruit junior college students (three-year program) in 2002, started to recruit undergraduate in 2006 (stop enrolling junior college students in the same year), and was appraised “outstanding” (new undergraduate specialty) by Education Department of Zhejiang Province in 2008. Department of Pharmacy was established in June 2013 and became a key speciality of Hangzhou municipal colleges in 2014. In 2017, it is qualified to have the master degree education in Pharmacy after the joint application.

At present, the department has 1 Hangzhou Municipal Key Laboratory [Key Laboratory of Medical Neurobiology], 1 second batch municipal top priority laboratory of Hangzhou municipal colleges [Innovative Drug Research Laboratory] and 1 university-level key laboratory [Innovative Drug Research Center]; and has co-established and shared 1 Zhejiang provincial experimental teaching center [Zhejiang Medical Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center] to fully guarantee venues for scientific research for teachers and students.
The Department of Pharmacy has 5 provincial-level excellent courses (Pharmacology, Physiology, Medical Immunology, Human Anatomy, Organic Chemistry) and one school-level excellent course (Medicinal Chemistry).
The Department of Pharmacy cultivates innovative talents who cherish knowledge, respect science, pay attention to the combination of medical knowledge and pharmacy expertise and attach equal importance to practical ability and ability in scientific research. The graduates have high overall quality and strong capability in innovation. The students of the speciality have high employment rate and admission rate in postgraduate entrance examis 39.3% in 2015, which is the top 1 in the university.
